Farewell guests and friends!

We are retiring! THANK YOU to all guests who stayed - when they left they were more like friends!

Autumn 2022

FLIPJACK RANCH has been a destination for rustic luxury stays for both San Francisco Bay residents and global visitors over the past nine years.   "Guests have returned  two and three times over the years." says Robin Colleen, proprietor of the farm to table BnB. "We were privledged to host so many interesting guests." But after 9 years hosting, Robin is keen to retire.

Closing the bed and breakfast was not an easy decision. "Having a farm doesn't really mean retirement," quips Robin. "Its more of a move to spend more time doing the things for the ranch that are meaningful."  Her plans include replanting 5 acres of pasture to enhance soil health and multiplying the number of perennial blooming plants that nourish natural pollinators. "Just caring for our bees takes a substantial amount of work. And with all the fire mitigation, that is an ongoing project," she says.

The ranch will continue to provide olives, grapes, stone fruits, cider apples, eggs and flowers, all of which Robin will make use of with her canning and preserving skills. Perhaps in the future, this master canner will offer day classes.

Never one to sit still, you may find Robin painting watercolors at Davenport beach, weaving traditional ash baskets or playing her ukelele.  And if you ever need advice on starting a farm or running a bed and breakfast, Robin would love to hear from you!

Thanking our staff

It takes a team

It takes a team to create a perfect guest experience and FlipJack Ranch had the best staff. Running a BNB means more than changing beds and ironing linens. Our staff woke up early to feed chickens and rabbits before serving tea trays to our guests. They were the ones out foraging for wild sorrel before our guests even woke up. By 8:30 am, they had already put in a couple hours getting ready to serve a farm to table breakfast.

Keeping up a historic property was no easy task, but our staff cleaned rooms for Covid, busted down cobwebs, and made beds to perfecting standards. And after that, they watered our gardens, pruned flower beds and whacked weeds.

Over the years we had remarkable staff members. Huge thanks and warm wishes to Teri Colebrissi, our ranch manager who ran a tight ship for more than 6 years. Grateful thanks to Sonja Jones and Natalie Lyons for their great ideas and attention to detail for more than the past year. Thanks to Bonnie Chope and Rebecca O'Neil who saw us through the CZU fires. Thanks to Connie Molinarius, Claire Gaston, Jack Woolf, and numerous others who made FlipJack Ranch a resounding success.

While we have retired from raising sheep, pigs and goats at the ranch, our farm to table commitment continues in the spirit of this video of FlipJack Ranch produced by  a Taiwan based team who filmed a documentary about  California  Organic Farms 5 years ago.
